SSI is headed by Dave Lauriski, a 40+ year veteran of the mining industry. He served as the seventh Assistant Secretary of Labor in charge of the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration during which time the U.S. mining industry experienced the safest performance ever. He is recognized throughout the world for his leadership skills and his knowledge in safety and health systems management, and a frequent presenter at mining forums. His international experience includes work in Canada, Mexico, South America, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Spain, Indonesia, China, Poland and the Ukraine. He also served as the U.S. employer representative to the International Labor Organization for the development of worldwide mine health and safety standards (Convention 176) which were ratified by the U.S. Senate in September 2000.
